Driftwood Communications has an exciting opportunity for OSP COAX & Linemen Technicians.
 
As a Full-time OSP Linemen Technician, you would be joining a team of dedicated, diversified and energetic people all committed to meeting deadlines for our clients while upholding the most stringent safety standards within the industry. The successful candidate will be working with both coax and fibre cables in aerial and underground locations in all-weather environments.

Hourly wage: $30.00- $35.00 per hour based on skill and experience.

Position Overview



The position of OSP COAX & Linemen Technicians requires the candidate to operate various lift vehicles and equipment including Telsta’s, cable lashing machines, confined spaces devices, pumps and blowers. The lineman is also required to perform tasks that include daily truck inspections, on-site toolbox meetings and all other industry and company safety practices. Driftwood is a safety-first company and expect all employees to adhere to all safety standards and protocols.

● Must have a safe driving record and provide a recent driver abstract
● Must have a valid class 5 license with air
● Successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
● Strong focus on safety in all environments
● Ability to work in all weather conditions including confined spaces and working in isolation
● Able to work in a physically demanding atmosphere, lifting over 70 lbs., climb ladders, handling of cable reels and other related tasks.
● Being self-disciplined and organized
● Customer focused character, with a commitment to quality workmanship
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Being physically fit to work in any environment, including confined spaces
● Skilled in interpreting and implementing engineered design maps and records
● Willingness to work overtime, weekends or on emergency call outs as required
● Travel is required for this position
● Skilled at climbing poles
 
Assets:

● Experience with coax cable and the splicing of, and the installation of coax related equipment. 9Multi-tap, couplers, amplifiers).
  • Experience in placing cable in both pole and conduit environments.
  • Experience in reading and understanding design maps for new build and upgrade project types, with a follow through to create as built maps. 
● Flexibility to travel within BC
● Experience with Micro cells
● Comfortable using Computer and hand-held devices would be an asset
 
Responsibilities:
 
● Able to work with in a team environment limited supervision with the installation of all wire mediums
● Performing all tasks with safety focussed on the crew and pedestrians
● Ability to coach and train others in the craft
● Knowledge to lead a team if required
● Knowledge of infrastructure placement for both aerial and underground situations
● Knowledge for proper placement to install copper, fiber, coax and strand
● Able to identify and wreck out old infrastructure such as cable and strand, including pole changes
● Knowledge of the TELUS TOPPS documentation an asset
 
Qualifications:
 
● Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the industry
● Confined spaces certificate
● Aerial Lift certificate
● WHMIS and Power Awareness certification
● Defensive driving certification
● First Aid is an asset
● Traffic control is an asset
● Holding a Journeyman’s certificate is a plus
